WHAT IS STEAMPUNK?
Steampunk is a subgenre of speculative fiction that fuses the aesthetics and technology of 19th-century steam-powered machinery with elements of science fiction and fantasy. It often features an alternate history setting where steam power has maintained mainstream usage, typically set in Victorian-era England or an environment inspired by that time and place. The steampunk world is characterized by elaborate machinery, airships, clockwork devices, and intricate gadgets, all powered by steam or other fantastical energy sources. It’s a genre that revels in the beauty of gears, levers, and mechanical complexity, oftentimes imbued with a sense of whimsy and adventure.
